If you're reading this, you have reached the end of the internet. Not really, but it feels like a tiny internet corner.
Substack is new to me, but the appeal of writing in a space where folks like you can find my words is appealing.
My name is Kathrese McKee. I am a speculative fiction author, a retired public school teacher, a former systems engineer, a current podcaster (Writing Pursuits podcast), a reluctant YouTuber, a mom of four, and a long-time newsletter writer.
Confession
I confess, writing newsletters on ConvertKit or MailChimp or MailerLite bums me out because the only folks who see those emails are current subscribers. And getting new subscribers is difficult.
Correction. The only folks who read my newsletters are current subscribers who actually open those emails. Maybe. Even with a healthy open rate, do those subscribers actually read the words?
Some do. Some readers even answer back. But they are a tiny fraction of the list. Also, people are shy about responding to emails. I get it; comments are much easier to leave at the end of a post.
Why did I choose Substack?
Substack seems like a good place to find new readers and to connect with fellow authors. There's the promise of community and of social interaction too. And an archive feature. Love that!
Writing Pursuits Tips is for authors who drink too much coffee, endure judgmental looks from their furry writing companions, and struggle for words. Here, we will discuss writing craft, author life, and more!
I hope you will subscribe to this little corner of the internet and visit often.
Meanwhile, keep writing, my friend. Keep writing!
